Corrugated Steel Reinforcement of Old Bridges and Culverts---Economical! Simple! Practical!

With the rapid development of social economy and transportation, the bridges built in cities and towns and highways at all levels in the past years bear very heavy traffic loads and heavy traffic. Due to various historical reasons, many old bridges and culverts have appeared various diseases, and the reinforcement of old bridges and culverts has become an important task facing traffic management and operation units at present and in the future. Steel corrugated pipe suppliers  will introduce to you the current common practices for old bridges and culverts:

1. On the basis of not damaging the original bridges and culverts, reduce the span of small bridges and culverts, and build a structure with similar structural form among them. The arch ring of stone arch culvert is added with a sleeve arch reinforcement method and a new arch ring is added under the ventral surface of the original main arch ring. That is, it is closely attached to the bottom surface of the original arch ring, and the corrugated steel arch is assembled by internal connections, which looks like a new arch ring is sleeved under the original arch ring. The lower structure expands the foundation reinforcement, uses embedded parts and the corrugated steel plate arch to connect as a whole, and the gap between the new and old arch rings is poured with high pressure cement slurry. This method is actually a new construction of a corrugated steel arch, and the construction period is short, the construction is simple, and it can be completed without interrupting traffic.

2. Place one or several steel corrugated pipe culverts in the original bridge and culvert. The corrugated pipe has the advantages of light weight, simple construction and short construction period. The bottom and both sides of the original culvert and the corrugated pipe can be filled with gravel, gravel soil, stone concrete, etc. Material, the top of the bellows can be pumped with high pressure expanded cement mortar or masonry expanded concrete. This method has achieved good results in engineering applications.

3. According to the needs of road reconstruction and expansion, according to the different structural forms of the original culvert, corrugated steel plates with different sections can also be selected.

Reinforcement construction method of old culvert with corrugated pipe:

Before culvert construction, prepare relevant materials, personnel and equipment to enter the site, and do the safety protection work during the construction period, and fence the subgrade slope to prevent stones and other objects from sliding down and hurting people.

Corrugated Pipe

Foundation treatment can be backfilled with gravel or masonry rubble concrete or reinforced concrete. Level the basement and replace it with 30-1250px thick gravel material to achieve a density of more than 90%. Choose a proper flowing water longitudinal slope of about 3%. Determine the centerline and sideline of each culvert.

During the construction of the corrugated pipe, the method of segmented construction is adopted, and two angle steels are used in the original arch culvert base in advance, and the length is determined according to the culvert length. As a slide rail for culvert pipe advancement, the diameter of the corrugated pipe can have different specifications according to the needs of the project. The diameter of the complete pipe is 0.5m-2.5m; the length of each pipe is about 3 meters. Adopt inner (outer) flange bolt connection. The span of the assembled structure is 3m-8m. It can be round, arched and other special-shaped cross-sectional shapes. Each circumferential direction is composed of 4-15 plates, and the plates are fastened by overlapping high-strength bolts.

If the length of the culvert is less than 30 meters and the width between the two sides of the corrugated pipe and the original culvert is greater than 2000px, the entire culvert pipe can be pushed downstream or upstream to one end. After it is in place, one end of the retaining wall is built, and the surrounding backfill work can be performed. Backfill sand gravel, gravel soil, masonry rubble, etc., and use mortar rubble or high-pressure pumping expansive cement mortar on the top.

If the culvert is longer than 30 meters and the width of the corrugated pipe on both sides of the original culvert is less than 2000px, the 3m-6m culvert can be pushed downstream or upstream to one end. After it is in place, it can be fixed and the top The space between the end wall of rubble, the other end of the corrugated pipe and the culvert shall be blocked with sandbags or grout rubble, the width is 1250px, and then backfilling begins. Both sides can be compacted with coarse sand and watertight method or tamped with concrete vibrating rods; the top openings on the side are made of high-pressure pumped expansive cement mortar. After filling the surroundings of the pipe section, transport the second pipe section to connect the two pipes. The connection method of the corrugated pipe is inner flange bolt connection, and workers can connect inside the pipe. After the connection is completed, backfill in the same way as above. In this order, complete the construction of the entire culvert.

When reinforced with arched structures, two channels with full length of the culvert are installed on the top surface of the reinforced concrete walls on both sides, the arched slabs slide in the channel to the final position, backfill in place, and in place in sections , Reinforcement.
